ABOUT JOHN

John Kemp: A Legacy of Service and Leadership

John D. Kemp is a fourth-generation Floridian with roots in South Florida dating back nearly a century to the mid-1920s, when his great-grandparents first settled in the region. Growing up immersed in public service, John gained valuable insight into city government through the involvement of his family members, who served as city council members, mayors, police chiefs, fire chiefs and water board officials. These early experiences shaped his commitment to a life dedicated to serving others.

In the 1990s, John began his career in public safety as a firefighter/paramedic. After starting in one department (Ocean Reef Public Safety as a firefighter/paramedic), he joined a local fire department (Palm Beach County Fire Rescue-firefighter/paramedic on a special risk truck currently and has been for many years), where he has proudly served for over 25 years. Throughout his distinguished career, John has been recognized with numerous honors, including multiple “Call of the Year” awards and the prestigious “Exceptional Service”, a testament to his unwavering dedication and exemplary service to the community.

He has also served as an instructor for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue teaching classes to staff and also new recruits which is in addition to his on-shift duties and separate service he provides to PBCFR.

John’s passion for helping others extends beyond his career and into deeply personal experiences. His son was a Make-A-Wish recipient during his treatment for a rare and chronic illness. This journey inspired John and his family to champion efforts to support others facing similar challenges. They have been dedicated to encouraging donations to causes like Make-A-Wish and the annual telethon for Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, one of the hospitals that played a crucial role in their son’s treatment and recovery. John’s advocacy reflects his heartfelt commitment to ensuring families across the country find the resources and support they need during difficult times.

John’s commitment to community extends beyond his professional career as a director on the board of his neighborhood Property Owners Association in Palm Beach Gardens, he has gained hands-on experience in governance and further developed his passion for community involvement.

Above all, John’s greatest source of pride is his family. Married for 23 years, he is a devoted husband, a proud father of two adult children, and a doting grandfather. Inspired by his love for family and community, John is now seeking to expand his service to the public by running for City Council, where he hopes to continue his legacy of leadership, dedication, and positive impact.
